For extra servings, the cheese sticks can be sliced in half lengthwise. Keeping them whole works fine too; slicing simply stretches the yield.

Place the prepared sticks on parchment paper on a tray and freeze them for 20–30 minutes, or until firm to the touch. Freezing prevents the cheese from leaking or bursting while cooking.

Remove the frozen sticks from the freezer and immediately dip them into the whisked egg.

  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cups breadcrumbs plain or flavored

Instructions 

  • Remove the mozzarella string cheese from the wrappers and arrange them on a baking pan lined with parchment.
  • Freeze the cheese sticks for about 30 minutes, until firm. This helps prevent the cheese from leaking or bursting while cooking.
  • In one bowl, beat the egg. In a separate bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
  • Prepare a baking sheet by spraying it with nonstick cooking spray or lining it with foil and spraying the foil.
  • Dip each frozen cheese stick into the egg, then roll it in breadcrumbs to coat. For a thicker crust, re-dip in egg and re-roll in breadcrumbs. Place each coated stick on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Return the coated sticks to the freezer for about 20 minutes to firm up the coating.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the sticks on the prepared sheet for about 5 minutes, flip them, then bake another 4–5 minutes. Watch closely and remove when the cheese begins to bubble. Serve immediately.

Air Fryer Instructions: Preheat the air fryer to 390°F. If sticks are frozen, cook 4–6 minutes. If not frozen, cook 2–4 minutes. Times may vary by model—watch closely until golden and the cheese is melted.
